Art Nouveau Bronze Figurine
This meticulously crafted, 20" high bronze figurine came to us dark and dull, its decorative pole broken and its patina disfigured in a prior attempt to rejoin it. We rebuilt the pole, removed the darkened wax and lacquer from the entire surface, and reworked the patina consistent with what we believed to have been the original.

An Art Nouveau bronze before restoration. The delicately patinated and polychrome painted surface is dark, dirty, and tarnished. The delicately modeled staff in the figurine's hands and across her shoulders was cracked, and needed to be rejoined and recolored with fresh matching lacquer.

Before

The Art Nouveau bronze repair in process: The small figurine's delicate straw colored patina has been revived and highlighted. The dancer's hair has once again been blackened with oxidizing chemical, and the grapes in her dark silver hair tinted a deep cherry red. Her soft, delicate breasts, her dress, and slender legs have once agan been brought to life, her delicate feet and knees highlighted to celebrate the joy of her springtime dance.

Redeveloping the coloring

The restoration of this late Nineteenth or early Twentieth Century figurine of a young dancing girl is complete. Her ankles, knees, thighs, breasts, delicate facial features, black silver hair and delicate, long arms are now a light straw bronze color. Her flying, geometric patterned dress is once again a deep reddish black. She balances on her strong left foot attached to a stone base by a hidden bronze pin extending from the bottom of her supporting foot into a drilled hole in the center of the polished stone.

The symbol for our restoration work is a silversmith's planishing hammer one of the most cherished tools in our shop. Each silversmith hand forms the two heads of his planishing hammer, and shapes its handle to perfectly fit his own hand.
